Grayling adventures in lapland

04/11/2020

Emilia Laitinen

Fly fishing for grayling is enjoying nature, which is what I believe most of the fishing to be. Here at Finnish Lapland fly fishing season starts at the end of the june when ice cover has left and it ends at the end of september. This may not seem like  along time to fish grayling but it is easy when the nights here are nightless. So if you like you can fish 24 hours per day.

For me fly fishing is a way to live. When I go to fishing is just not catching a fish. It´s way of relaxing or spend time together with friends. One of the very important things while fishing is too make a fire, eat outdoors and just sit by the campfire and enjoy the natural beauty of Finland. I also do fishing guiding for living, so I spend most of the summer up to the grayling waters sleeping in the tent and drinking the water from the river (Our nature is so clear that I can drink the water from the river where I fish) without any phone coverage. ”Offline is new Luxury”.

Grayling is the most beautiful fish I think and it’s quite challenging fish also. I like it beacause there are huge grayling both at lakes and also in the rivers. You don´t need to be perfect casting skills to catch a huge grayling you just have to be in the right place at the right time.
